Self Portrait

In order to seque into art class while focusing on the task at hand- college portfolios, we created self modeled after line drawings done by artists such as John Lennon. After sketching a photo graph of ourselves, we simplified our drawings as much as possible. It was suprisingly difficult to chose which lines to draw and which ones to leave out- especially considering the original photo had a lot of dimention, however, I am pleased with my results.  The final products are posted to the right.

Derivative Characters

Faces of Literature

Faces of Art History

For this project, we painted famous faces to create an art historical timeline. Each student chose an artist, using his or her style to portay a face. We looked at historical art periods and focused on individual artists. The final exhibit displayed many different types of art all using the acrylic paint medium. I chose paint Elmer Fudd by the famous Chuck Jones who also created Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and countless other influential characters. I'm happy with how it turned out- I was first very skeptical of the background but I think it complemted the art well.

In this project, we merged our English and Art classes, reading a famous person's autobiography and then drawing them and collaging that drawing. The final exhibit was supposed to take after the cover to the famous Beatles' album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". In English we wrote letters to our authors, in my case, Johnny Cash.

Ps. the finger was censored so I gave him a thumbs up instead.

The essential question to this project was, "Can you create a character that transcends the original and can stand on its own as a new original?" I chose to draw Disney's Dumbo who is famous for his ability to fly. My Dumbo got prosthetic ears that are wings. In this project we learned about watercolor.

Austin Joe Jones Project

For this project an HTH Alumni and starting artist Austin Jones, came in to teach how to sketch people and make them our own characters. I chose to draw Jimi Hendrix and then transfered mediums to Photoshop. This is my project through the process.

Jean Michel Basquiat

After studying the work of the famed Jean Michel Basquiat, we created our own art in his style. This is my work (along with additions from my fellow classmates).

Faux-asis Project

Pronounced foh-a-sis --- this project focused on the using recycled material and exhibiting it back where it came from: the forest. As a class we created trees, bushes, rocks and other animals to display on top of the Spanish room. I chose to make an elephant with Indian decor. With help from my classmate Janie, this is my final product.
